Our French Friends Visit Deal for the Day - 14th October 2023
Prepared for the off at Calais (But where`s the driver?)
Due to the, now, usual border delays at both Calais and Dover, our friends were too late to visit Deal Market - which is often the highlight of their visits here
However, not everythig was lost, as many made it to a superbe lunch at "81 Beach Street"
Meanwhile, others were presented to our new Mayor, Councillor Oliver Richardson.
This is where entente cordiale comes into its own
"a friendly understanding or informal alliance between states or towns".
Fine if you can understand what each other is saying.
Our French friend is obviously looking for help from the audience and her i-phone translate, while our mayor looks on wishing he had gone to 81 Beach Street. Catching his left thumb in the lawnmower didn`t help his cordiale either!
As can be seen in these images, the spirit of "entente cordiale" is present, with the English drinking French wine and the French drinking English beer
After lunch, the craving for local shopping was satiated by intravenous injections of charity shops, stationary shops and assorted clothing and food outlets in the town centre. These indulgencies were finally terminated by infusions of tea and cakes at "Little Harriettes"
"Well that was good, but this doesn`t look like Dover ferry terminal, have we missed the coach?"
